Week of December 11, 2017

Monday and Thursday we worked with our big buddies in the Maker Space Lab on two coding programs: Scratch Jr. and Osmos Coding kits.  We had so much fun learning with them!  In class, the students learned two new iPad apps called Kodable and Daisy The Dinosaur.  Many seem to really enjoy the Kodable app.

Tuesday we had a great Art Vistas lesson on the Color Wheel.  We used Primary Colors to make some Secondary Colors.

On Friday, December 15th, the first graders will sing as a gift to you.  The show will begin at 2:00 in the cafeteria.  Students could wear their Holiday outfit for the performance and/or a Santa hat if your child wishes.  Please, no reindeer antlers, bells, or hats that would obstruct the view of another child.  I hope you can make it!
Our class holiday party is coming up on Wednesday, December 20th.  You will see more information coming soon.

Thank you to all our classroom helpers this week!  Thank you!!

Enjoy a great weekend!

The first-grade classes have been working together and practicing holiday songs for our Holiday Sing coming up.  Save the date: Friday, December 15th, the show will begin at 2:00 in the cafeteria.

Thank you to all our classroom helpers this week in and out of the classroom!

Please remember your library books on Monday.

Week of October 30, 2017

It was great to see many of you at the Walk-A-Thon last Saturday!  It’s always a fun event for everyone.  :)

We have been studying and observing caterpillars for the past two weeks.  They changed into their chrysalis state and now many are butterflies.  Ask your child about their caterpillar/butterfly.

Tuesday is Halloween! I know your first grader can't wait to show off their costume!  It will certainly be a day filled with excitement!  On Tuesday, students should wear their costumes to school.  The Costume Parade starts at 8:30 on the Primary Playground.  Our class party will begin about 9:00 (following the parade).  Parents are welcome to stay for the party.  After recess, we will try to resume our school day, as best as we can.  :)  Please make sure your child can use the restroom on their own with their costume.  I’ll attach our principal’s message about Halloween Costumes as well. It looks like we still need some help with the stations/booths for our class party, even if it's just for part of the time, that would be helpful.  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4ca8a72aaafb6-class/17005849

Tuesday is also a Family Night, so there is no homework that night and to lighten the packet, we worked on our Book Report together and the first page of the math.

We will have an Art Vistas project on Thursday about 11:20 (Lesson is at 10:50).  It is always nice to have extra parent helpers for the project.  Please let Mrs. Timpano know if you can make it.

On Thursday our school will have Family Science Night!  It is a lot of fun!  Hope you can make it.  We still need some volunteers for the event.  If you or a friend would like to help out (It’s fun and easy!) Here is the sign up:  http://bit.ly/FamilyScience2017

We have been really good about returning our library books; let’s keep that up!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Week of October 23, 2017

I hope to see you tomorrow at the Walk-a-Thon!  Make sure your child is wearing their Walk-a-Thon t-shirt if they pre-registered, so they can collect lap tallies.  Here is the website if you need more information.  http://altavistawalkathon.org

Please let Anne-Marie Hart know if you can help us on Thursday with our Clay glazing project.  Set up starts at 10:30.

Don't forget to sign up for Seesaw.  We have been adding more to our online journals.

Please return your AV School Library book on Monday.  I do remind the students to check their backpack for their books, but I do not check it for them; if you pack the book for your child, let them know as well. :)

Thank you to our parent volunteers this week!

Have a great weekend!

Week of October 16, 2017

Don’t forget to sign your child up for the Walk-a-Thon!   I will be handing out the Walk-a-Thon t-shirts in class on Friday for all of the preregistered students.  www.altavistawalkathon.org

We had a great time on our field trip today.  It was my first time at the Mountain View Center For Performing Arts and I really enjoyed it!

We will not be visiting the library on Monday due to CELDT testing.  You can return your library book or hold onto it for one more week.

One of the decorations for the Walkathon is a scarecrow from each class.  Our scarecrow has a bear face but needs pants and a top.  Let me know if you’re interested in taking our scarecrow home and adding an outfit to it. J

I hope you enjoy your weekend.
