Week of April 29, 2019

Dear Parents,
It was great to see and hear about all the creations made from recycled products!  Thank you for your help with this project.

We had a great time in the makerspace yesterday!  A huge thank you to Mrs. and Mr. Petrova, Mr. Ichien, Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. South, and Mrs. Korde.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

On Tuesday, we had a great Cornerstone Lesson with Mrs. Smiley and Mrs. Joseph.  They read us the story, One by Kathryn Otoshi. For a project, our class drew designs and words of peace and kindness on rocks.  Then we placed the rocks throughout the playground and field so they could be found by others.
Our class will begin to work on our class play based on the story, The Great Kapok Tree.  Our show will be on Friday, May 31st at 8:30 am in our classroom.  I hope you can join us!

The Flat Stanley Display’s due date is May 8. Don’t worry if your Flat Stanley has not arrived back home yet.  The due dates are guideline dates. My only request is that I have them a few days before Open House (5/22), so I can add them to the wall display.
Our school reached our goal for “Silver Saves Lives!”  Students collected over $2,400! Mrs. Bailey colored her hair purple as promised!

Our field trip to Vasona-YSI is on Tuesday 4/30.  Please let me know if you would like to come with us.  We will leave AV at 9:00 and return about 1:15. There will most likely be room on the bus, but a small chance you will need to drive.  I have prepaid parking passes if you drive. So far I have the following parents signed up: Jason Smiley, Mahshad Kamali, Brittny Thompson, Souyma Korde, Lawerence Byrne, and Mr. Price.  Thank you.

Week of April 22, 2019

Dear Parents,
Thank you for your help with the Recycle Projects!  They look great and the students are excited to share them.  It wasn’t in the plan, but we started to share a few of them today.  We will share the rest next week.
This was our last official week of Cougar Time Reading groups.  We will continue to work on reading groups within our own classroom.
We will visit the Makerspace on Thursday the 25th at 8:30 to work on Colors of Light and kaleidoscopes.  We would love 4-5 parent helpers. The more parents, the more projects we can do!
We would also love toilet paper roll donations for this project.
The school is participating a fundraiser this week for Relay for Life. It is called "Silver Saves Lives." If your child would like to participate, s/he can bring some silver coins (no pennies, please) and add them to our jar in the classroom to help fundraise for cancer research. The winning classroom gets a pizza party AND if the school collects $1000, Mrs. Bailey will dye her hair purple!
I hope you have a nice weekend!

Dear Families,

I hope you enjoyed a nice Spring Break.  I can’t wait to hear about it from the students.

We will visit the AV library tomorrow morning.

This week the homework is Project Recycle.  We will not have a regular homework packet. There is a helpful timeline for the week to accomplish the project.  It is due on Friday, but you may send them in earlier if they are finished. I will also attach the directions to the email.

On Tuesday, 4/16, we will have our First Grade Music Performance at 2:00 in the cafeteria.  Mrs. Threet has taught us some familiar songs on the instruments. Each class will have a chance to be on stage.  Students should wear their class t-shirt on Tuesday.  I hope you can make it!
