Week of September 4, 2017

It has been three fantastic weeks of first grade!  We are already on day 12!  We are still working on procedures and rules, and everyone is trying their best.  We're still getting used to the longer day of first grade, and getting better each day. :)
Today I sent home homework packet #1.  For the Weekly Book Report, please use a book of your choice.  Because this is the first one, we used the same book, just for example purposes.  I will post some pictures of homework examples on our blog.  https://avbergmansbears.blogspot.com/

Today we had our first PE Class with Coach Sierra.  Ask your child how they liked it.  We will have PE every Thursday.

We tried out a new program (New for me too!) on the ipads called Prodigy Math.  The students wanted to try it out at home.  I sent home their Prodigy passwords today.  It is case sensitive, so your child might need some guidance, but they can do it.  The more they log in on their own, the easier it will be for them.

Next week, I will start some of our assessments with the children for Math and Reading.

Friday, September 8th is Picture Day.  You may order pictures before picture day, online at mylifetouch.com.  Enter Picture Day ID: BY417706Q0

We also have an author visit coming up soon.  I will forward the message from our HSC.

As a reminder there is no school tomorrow and Monday.  I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

CCP

We are into the home stretch for parents to contribute to their child’s classroom fund (Consolidated Classroom Pledge/CCP/Patron/Benefactor/Donation) to support classroom field trips, buses, and classroom activities.

Deadline is TODAYAugust 31, 2017 for a chance for the grade with the highest percentage participation by donating CCP/Patron/Benefactor/Donations to win a pizza party!  Any amount of donation will count towards their child’s classroom fund and will count as participated.

As of noon, August 30, 2017, the following are the percentages per grade of participation:

Kindergarten:  80%
1st grade:  67%
2nd grade:  64%
3rd grade:  66%
4th grade:  55%
5th grade:  61%

Please help to rally to increase the above percentages.  If all grades get 100%, then all grades win a pizza party!
Log into MySchoolAnywhere (MSA) Parent Portal and visit the Online Store to contribute: www.myschoolanywhere.com

Haven’t signed up in MSA?
Thank you to all who have contributed.

Week of August 28, 2017

Dear Families,
Thank you for all that you have signed up for - to help our class this year!  I know each of you are busy in work and home life, your help makes a BIG difference in our class!

We will begin the Recess 101 PE (funded by the AVHSC) with Coach Sierra on Thursday.  Please be sure your child is wearing sneakers and comfortable clothing.

We had our first meeting with our 4th Grade (Miss Saba’s class) Buddies.  We will meet together on Friday mornings for about 20 minutes.

The week of September 11th, we will start our BEAR SHARE (Sharing).  I updated the schedule and assignments on our classroom web page and attached the schedule to your BTSN packet.

The week of September 25th, we will begin Special Person of The Week.  The schedule is on our web page and a copy is in your BTSN packet.

**Students may have water bottles on their desk throughout the school day.  However, please do not send juice or sports drinks for inside the classroom.

As a safety precaution classroom doors are locked during the day.  If you are coming to school to volunteer, please sign in at the office to get a sticker badge (even if it makes you a minute late to help).

Here is the AVHSC website: www.avhsc.org

Lastly, Friday is a Staff Work Day so there is no school for the students. Hope you can take advantage of an extra day for the Labor Day Weekend.

Week of August 21, 2017

What a great first week of school!  Your first grader has been learning many new routines for room 1 and rules for the primary playground.  Your child is probably feeling a bit tired after school due to transitioning to a longer school day and getting back to a school schedule.  It usually takes a few weeks, but they'll feel better adjusted soon!

I usually send home a Bear Print Weekly Newsletter via email, if you need a hard copy, please let me know.  Please see our first Bear Print attached.  I will also post a copy to our Class webpage.  Which is under Classroom Pages, then under First Grade.

Our school district has purchased Solar Eclipse Glasses for every student in the district!  Although we are not in the Path of Totality, we will be able to see about 75% around 11:15 AM, therefore we have planned to have inside recess on Monday.  In class we will talk about viewing the eclipse and how to properly use our safety glasses.  I will be taking small groups of our students outside to view the eclipse using the Solar Eclipse Glasses. Please remind your child that we should never look at the sun with our eyes, and that the solar rays are even stronger during an eclipse (we will also discuss this in class).

August 23rd is Back to School Night for Parents.  We will meet in room 1, at 7:15 pm to go over First Grade throughout the year.  Before our meeting, there is a Principal's Welcome and AV Home and School Club meeting in the Cafeteria from 6:45-7:15.  If you have children in 4th or 5th grade, their classroom presentations will begin at 6:00.

At Back To School Night, I will need you to review and make any necessary changes to your child’s Emergency Contact Information.  If you will not be able to make it on Wednesday, please let me know and I will send the form home with your child.

Just in case you need our Home and School Club's website, it has a lot of information about upcoming events at school. http://www.avhsc.org/

Thank you for sending me all your email addresses!  If you need to add or eliminate any addresses, please let me know.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
